HOME RULE FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY?
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) have announced that they are moving forward with changing how Douglas County's government functions. Instead of continuing to be a statutory county government, the BOCC is pursuing Home Rule government for Douglas County.
The Home Rule decision will be decided by voters in two elections: The first will be a special election on June 24 where voters will be asked two questions - 1) whether to form a home rule charter commission and 2) to select charter commission members, who will be drafting a new Home Rule Charter for Douglas County. The second election will be held on November 4 where voters will decide if they accept the proposed Home Rule Charter created by the charter commissioners. Read the BOCC's home rule information here.
